RESPONSIBLE FARMING

Wagenboom Nature Reserve, situated in the Tandfontein Estate, have received the Award for Best Stewardship Site – Biodiversity Conservation from Cape Nature. According to the adjudicators, Wagenboom Nature Reserve stood out because of it’s significant contribution towards the conservation of species, habitat, systems and vegetation types.

The conservation area on the estate is 4420ha in extent and consists of several vegetation types, most notably Koue Bokkeveld Alluvium Fynbos which is Endangered and Koue Bokkeveld Shale Fynbos which is vulnerable.

In a highly productive agricultural landscape such as the Koue Bokkeveld these extensive and diverse lowland areas are very important contributors towards ecosystem services such as water purification and as a habitat for pollinators.

Sustainable Farming

At Dutoit, sustainability has been a priority for decades. The company has established an innovation hub focusing on soil health and water usage as part of our sustainable practices. By optimizing water use and implementing a retention strategy, Dutoit ensures sustainable water management year-round.

To tackle South Africa’s unstable power supply and to embrace clean power usage, Dutoit has embraced solar energy, generating 4,698 kWp across its operations and planning further expansions to reduce our carbon footprint, with renewable energy. Key partners like Ceres Koelkamers and Cape Fruit Coolers are also adopting solar solutions, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Innovation

At Dutoit, our commitment to innovation ensures our customers receive the best products. We employ advanced agricultural techniques like drones to monitor tree health and GPS-equipped fertiliser applicators for precise nourishment. Our orchards are equipped with shade nets, reflective materials, and defoliation machines to enhance fruit quality.

Our hand-thinning and handpicking processes ensure optimal sunlight and size for each fruit. We take great care during harvesting to prevent damage, employing quality controllers and specialised transportation methods to maintain top standards.

We also educate our customers on proper fruit care, ensuring the quality is preserved from our orchards to your table. Enjoy the exceptional taste of our meticulously nurtured fruit and vegetables!
